Larry and the Simple Conversation
by Rebecca Blake Title
Sometimes it's the simple conversations.
I bend down to tie my shoelaces
but really I'm avoiding all the people who look like Larry.
I don't remember Larry's last name so I'd rather not
run into him. Or rather, have him run into me.
I'm the one sitting after all, and it's the people
who look like Larry that are milling around.
How did the phrase "milling around" come into use? I ask.
She doesn't answer. She's too busy looking at the chandelier.
I wonder if maybe she's avoiding all the people who look
like Larry. Or maybe she's hoping the people
who look like Lucy can be avoided.
There's nothing left to do but spin this globe.
Belarus! I exclaim.
