Goodbye

by Christine Bayeux

After everyone stopped
speculating about his
reasons and weaknesses,
puddles from mountains of
melted snow having evaporated,
suddenly the necessity for
healing revealed itself.
It was true-
what the material
girl had sang. There was no
greater power than
the power of goodbye.
Though not yet a choice,
still it existed, even if
exclusively unattainable.
Its mere existence a gray,
fading hope blanketed by delusion.
There had been no kisses on
damp cheeks, rosy from despair,
despite the necessity of at least one
while the surface of a two part
word stumbled from silent lips,
and trembled with the pain of knowing
Goodbye.
