While literary 'movements' and art 'movements' are rarely talked about in geographical terms anymore, the Lower East Side still boasts a focused local music scene, characterized by its crossroads of punk and 'new music'. Our Great Hobo commentators have selected the best and bravest of the indie scene, as well as provided commentary on what's happening in the mainstream.

Enjoy an mp3 from Gret Hobo Del Goldfarb... Del is a self-proclaimed jug-band-esque modern skiffle music player. His stuff really rings of the Lower East Side of a few decades ago - the Bowery of hope, revolution, and change, as captured on vinyl. Check out an mp3 of one of his latest and greatest, Portable Man. If you like Portable Man, you can hear more of Del's tunes on his CD, Up To My Neck, which features John Sebastian on harmonica, as well as many other folk rock greats.

Also, please take note - the July 2005 issue of Chronogram featured an article on Great Hobo legend Del Goldfarb!
