2005, A Year in Review

Text and Photos by Tyler M. Carey

Spring brought the debut performances of a new New music ensemble called Ionisation. Based in New Jersey, Ionisation performs New music, and that's New with a capital N, from the contemporary Classical catalog of young composers. The concerts were sponsored by the Two River Theater company in Red Bank, NJ and the Montclair Art Museum in Montclair, NJ. Our very own Dr. Christian B. Carey was one of the featured composers at their first concert series, held in Red Bank, NJ and Montclair, NJ. Christian's piece "Trio for Flute, Cello, and Vibraphone" was played by the ensemble.
Christian was fortunate to be not only a composer whose music was played by the group, but also the author of the program's liner notes, and one of the speakers on the pre-show lectures. Here he is, seated with host David Weisberg, discussing the impact of composer Elliott Carter on the music of he and his contemporaries.

Christian also was wrote an article for Splendid E-Zine about the performances. It is posted on Splendid's web site.
