The Mermaid Parade, 2003

The Great Hoboes of New York were fortunate enough to be among the marchers in this year's Mermaid Parade in Coney Island. The crowd was as colorful as ever, including beautiful women (and men) dressed as mermaids, bellydancers, swing dancers done up in 40s regalia, a klezmir band, rock bands on trucks, floats, and everything just reeking of creativity and energy. We Hoboes did our best to throw together some ragtag tropical/Caribbean themed outfits and drum up some fun. Mardi Gras beads and Great Hoboes fliers were in abundance. I hope that we gained some new readers that day, and entertained as many folks as we could.

As you'll see over in our Features section, Mark Hugo and his running mate Karl Moore attracted a bit of attention, too. Please read that article when you get a chance.

Below, please find some photos from our dash through the rain drops with the neptunes and mermaids of Coney Island.
