VIDEO CLIP - Elliott Smith was one of the greatest songwriters of our generation, which has had pop charts noticeably lacking in great songwriters. Mr. Smith was a favorite of the indie circuit who seemingly reluctantly made it big, due to the 1998 Oscar nomination of his song "Miss Misery", which appeared on the Good Will Hunting soundtrack. His albums XOXO and Figure 8 developed his strong fan base, supplying them with often painful and haunting ballads, which critics compared to the best work of John Lennon and Nick Drake. This past summer, Mr. Smith appeared as part of the doomed Field Day festival at Giants Stadium. It was to be one of his last performances. He died in his LA apartment on October 22, 2003. Great Hobo Julio was lucky enough to attend Smith's performance at Field Day, and has provided this video clip of his performance. From Julio - It appears that the video clip we have on the great hoboes site is of one of his last songs written. The name of the song is "A Distorted Reality is Now a Necessity to be Free" and it appears on a single that was just released through Suicide Squeeze Records.
